These notes are based off The Wizard-Dervish from Forty-four Turkish Fairy Tales by Ignacz Kunos (1913).
- So this is part 2 of the story. So far the youth and the maiden are together! But, the mother is a witch, and doesn't want them to be together.
- In this story, I'm interested in the witch figure and all the shape-shifting. Super cool stuff, and I can probably make it scary.
- The maiden sees that the witch is following them
- She turns the man in a garden, and she turns into a gardener
- when the witch catches up with them, she has no idea!
- she questions "the gardener" and the youth and maiden are able to escape
- This keeps happening. The only thing that changes is what they shift into
- Oven and Baker
- Duck and pond
- Each time they escape the witch
- After they get away from the witch the final time they make it to an inn
- The youth sets out to get a carriage for the girl
- He is seized by a dervish
- The Prince is taken to his father's palace and in the great hall
- Is this all a dream??
- The Princess realizes that something is wrong, and turns into a dove!
- She flies to the palace, and lands on the prince
- After she yells at the prince, she flies back to the inn (what a cool trick)
- The youth realizes that he is not dreaming, and goes to meet his princess back at the inn
- The bride that he was supposed to marry leaves
- He marries the dervish's daughter and lives happily ever after!
- I love the happy ending, but it's still just a bit creepy.
- He was basically forced to marry this girl! Oh well, as long as they made it work it's fine
- Sometimes fairy tales are so weird.
