Introductions Are Hard

Hello! I'm Grayce and this is my second time taking an online class with Laura! All of the information in my original introduction  is still pretty accurate, so feel free to check it out. Honestly, I'm pretty bad at talking about myself and it's just as hard while blogging 😅. This is my senior year at OU (finally!). Since I'm an older college student (25), I'm very excited to graduate. I will soon be able to start my career as an educator which is completely terrifying!

Over my quarantine summer, I've been surrounding myself with plants. I have a tendency to kill things, but I've found a few varieties of houseplants (snake plant and marble pothos) that can withstand some abuse lol. If you have any gardening advice, or suggestions for plant names, let me know :)

My plant friends:

This is my Marble Queen Pothos (needs a name!)

This is my Snake plant (Sansevieria), which is currently named Georgina (I'm open to renaming)

  1. Hi Grayce!
I'm also a senior (I'll graduate in December) so I totally get the feeling of being ready to be done! It's so close I can feel it!
I love your plants, what a fun thing to do during quarantine. My grandma likes to have lots of plants in her backyard, it's her hobby. She said that she's been so bored all she does is water her plants and thinks that she may be drowning them LOL. Well it was nice to 'virtually' meet you. Good luck with the rest of your semester!!

  2. Hey Grayce!
Congrats on graduating soon, that’s really awesome! I’m sure you’ll kill it as an educator, but it must be hard to start such an interactive job during the pandemic; I hope things have gotten better by the time you start. It’s also super cool that you picked up the hobby of gardening during quarantine (it sounds like you were much more productive than me haha). I’ve found that spider plants and cacti are pretty hard to kill, maybe you should try those!

  3. Hi Grayce!

So you found that it's not hard to keep a marble Pothos alive? I have a regular Pothos and it is the most moody plant I have ever had! I definitely prefer my cacti and succulents to it any day even though it is so beautiful! You should name her Margo. The name just feels right for some reason.

Also, I know that you said you don't like change in your original introduction but based off of the tv shows you prefer, you should definitely give Community a shot! It's one of my favorite tv shows out there and I really think you would enjoy it since you like The Office.

I'll have to give "Wide Sargasso Sea" a shot the next time I'm looking for a novel to read. If you're needing any suggestions though, some of my favorites recently are "Tears of the Truffle Pig" by Fernando Flores and "Fight Club" by Chuck Palahniuk.

    Have a great day!

  4. Hi Grayce!
Yay! Congratulations on being so close to graduating, that is so exciting! Is there anything specific you hope to do as an educator, like grade or subject? I hope you have a smooth transition because I know it can be hard especially with a pandemic, but having classes you attend online probably help prepare you to teach that way if need be. I love your plants and am actually a bit jealous as they look so cute! I agree you should name her Margo. I hope you have a smooth semester and happy educating soon!

  5. Hi Grayce! I love your plants! I love the aesthetic look of plants in the house. I can never keep them alive though so I always end up buying fake plants. Maybe I'll try buying a marble pothos! It looks really pretty. I agree with Keana Jo on the name. Margo is very fitting. :D
Congratulations on being in your senior year! I am also a senior! I'm very excited to graduate. However, I will still have two more years of school after because I'm planning on going to PA school. Also, I love that you're going to be an educator.

  6. Hi Grayce! First, I really love how your name is spelled. I think it's super unique. Also, your plants are adorable! I also used to have a very hard time keeping plants alive in the past. I'm not sure why that happened, but your plants looks very healthy (and happy)! Congratulations on graduating soon as well, that's a huge accomplishment! I know graduation and other important life events are super scary right now with COVID, but you've come a long way already and it's really awesome. Anyways, it was nice meeting you!

  7. I should try to find some plant friends also, Grayce! I'm not very good with them, although I had a cactus who lived a long time. That cactus clearly thrived on neglect, ha ha. I need plants to TELL me that they need to be watered. And to do so loudly! Anyway, I'm excited that this class can add to your preparation for going into teaching... teaching is such a great profession (I can't imagine doing anything else...), but it's never been easy, and the pandemic has made things so much harder, but also so much more important! In fact, it seems like now is the first time that people are really realizing how important school is for every child, all the time. I hope you will find lots of stories through the experience of this class that you will be able to share with your future students. You can never have too many stories ready to share IMO! :-)

  8. Hi, Grayce! I, too, am a killer of plants. Are there any you feel are most hardy? My personal suggestion as fellow black thumb are majesty palms. Also -- it's so exciting to be a senior! How do you envision your future? I'm personally trying to be optimistic as I'm graduating myself, and it's pretty complicated and trying times. But let's keep in contact and support each other maybe! I feel after applying to 23846 connections are important.

  9. Hi Grayce :)
I think it's awesome you're finally graduating this year! Congratulations! I wish you the best of luck starting your education career. I know you'll be wonderful :)
I know what you mean about plants. I think Georgina is a wonderful name for your plant! Your marble pothos seems very regal, so maybe name it Penelope or Ophelia? I hope the rest of your time at OU goes really well despite the craziness going on :)

  10. Hi Grayce! I clicked over to your other introduction, I'm also a huge Grey' fan. But I've watched it all the way through on Netflix 4 times now (I think). I feel the same way about starting new shows, I hate it! I prefer the comfort of what I already know. I'm also a senior, technically a fifth year senior but who cares! I wish I could take of plants, but I've killed numerous cacti in my life so I just don't think it's in the cards for me!

  11. Hi Grayce,
I started a garden during the quarantine. My watermelon plant went totally wild and almost took over the backyard. We did eventually get two small watermelons from that whole big mess! I am also an older student and am very excited to be so close to graduation (Finally!).

Have you decided on a name for your Marble Queen Pothos yet? You could always go with an old school regal name like Victoria or Alexandria.

    -Eli

  12. Hi Grayce!

I think it is awesome you want to be an educator. My mom is a teacher and that is a career that many people cannot do. It requires a certain skill set and I am very impressed by those who have it. Especially the patience aspect, I have not received that gene from my mom. However, I did receive the plant killing gene. Not on purpose. But, they do have a tendency to die whenever we are left in charge.

  13. Hi Grayce! I recently got into plants last semester (as in this is the first time the plant has lived) and I have a pothos too! I propagated it from a friend and it originally only had 3 leaves but now we're at 12 and counting! Hopefully I can eventually reach your level and become and (multi) plant mom! -Sydney

  14. Hi Grayce! I loved reading your introduction post and getting to know more about you. Also, I loved seeing your pictures of all of your plants. Congratulations on your future career as an educator. That is so exciting! I think it is always inspiring when people want to be an educator, we need more people like you! Great post Grayce!

Week 7 Story: Goblin in the Woods

Markus had been wandering through the woods for hours now. It was getting darker, colder, and creepier as the sun started to set. He started to regret his decision to find the famous “goblin of the woods” that supposedly hunted in this forest. Every time someone vanished in the woods, the whole town blamed it on a horrifying, man-eating goblin.  Markus totally didn’t believe in it, not at all.  There are tons of totally normal, realistic reasons for people disappearing in the woods. Like, starvation or just plain ol’ getting lost. Hell, even getting attacked by a bear was more likely than a goblin!  There was no reason to believe that a cannibalistic goblin existed in these woods. Once Markus proved that the goblin didn’t exist, the rumors would be put to rest and his buddies would owe him 200 dollars. It was a win-win for him. It seemed to be around midnight when Markus found a little cabin in the middle of a clearing. Normally, he wouldn’t dare to go in, but it was colder outside t
