Time Management

For this blog post I read this article: The Myth of "Too Busy" by Tim Grahl  Okay, first of all, I didn't get a good impression of the author of this article. I personally don't think it's a big deal to have "wasted time" in your schedule. Especially in the time of corona, it's nice to just relax for a few hours and not be stuck to strict list of things to do. I wouldn't enjoy life if I felt like I had to constantly be working toward some kind of goal or achievement. However,  I do think that I could be better about prioritizing my time. I often think of myself as "busy", but I've noticed that I waste a significant amount of time on Instagram or  Facebook. I've scrolled around for hours without really doing anything other than sitting on the couch and staring at my phone. One way that I've been working on this is to set app timers on my phone. If I set a limit on Instagram for 30 minutes, my phone will block access to the ap

Technology for Class

Last semester, I enjoyed using the online tools. The one that I use the most is the word count tool. I even use it outside of this class. Before installing it to Chrome, I had to open a word doc and copy/paste to find out my word count. That method is okay, but definitely time consuming! I also got used to Blogger last semester, but it seems to have gotten an update. I'm still struggling with moving around or formating pictures (it was easier on the old system!). I wrote on my old blog post that I wanted to work with Twine, but I don't think I actually did that! A lot of educators use Twine for creative writing or student projects, so maybe this semester I can find more time to use it.  Image Information:  "Spotlight on Virtual Reality: Robot Repair"   by  World Economic Forum  is licensed under  CC BY-NC-SA 2.0

Thoughts on Assignments

This semester my goal is to finish early lol. I'm already familiar with the assignment and class layout, so I'm ready to get started! I enjoyed my system that I had last semester, but I think that this time I will do a bit less extra credit! I kind of went overboard last time, and it wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been. It felt like a requirement and it made me stressed! This time around I plan to only do the extra credit if I think it sounds fun. I also didn't write very many weekly stories last semester ( I think I only did 3). I plan to do more of those this time! I enjoy getting story feedback and comments, but it's kind of hard to do that if I don't write the stories.  I also like the new extra credit option! It sounds like a good way to get ahead while also making some time to relax and enjoy finding new material.  "a sunny day for red and white ballons"   by  andreas.klodt  is licensed under  CC BY-NC-SA 2.0

Thoughts about Growth Mindset

Since I'm a returning student, I heard about Growth Mindset last semester. I went back and read my old blog post, and I still agree with everything that I mentioned in my old post. I love Dweck's ideas around learning and trying to grow as a person. I worked on fixing my mental attitude last semester and I think that it really helped my outlook! I wrote that I was nervous for my English Capstone class (since I didn't want to fail at it lol), but I really enjoyed that class! Even with the pandemic, I feel like a learned a lot and grew as an educator because of that class. I created an education website, and I plan to create another one in my free time this semester.  My younger sister is starting OU this semester and she's nervous just like I was. My advice to her was to worry less about getting good grades and focus more on learning new skills and improving as a person (growth mindset). When I become a teacher, I want to take what I've learned about mindset and ins

Introductions Are Hard

Hello! I'm Grayce and this is my second time taking an online class with Laura! All of the information in my original introduction   is still pretty accurate, so feel free to check it out. Honestly, I'm pretty bad at talking about myself and it's just as hard while blogging 😅. This is my senior year at OU (finally!). Since I'm an older college student (25), I'm very excited to graduate. I will soon be able to start my career as an educator which is completely terrifying! Over my quarantine summer, I've been surrounding myself with plants. I have a tendency to kill things, but I've found a few varieties of houseplants (snake plant and marble pothos) that can withstand some abuse lol. If you have any gardening advice, or suggestions for plant names, let me know :)  My plant friends:  This is my Marble Queen Pothos (needs a name!) This is my Snake plant (Sansevieria), which is currently named Georgina (I'm open to renaming)  Image Information:  "Marb
