StoryBook Plan

My idea for this storybook is to create a sort of log or narrative that focuses on sea monsters. I plan to have a young heroine that chases/interacts with various sea monsters from different countries. I would have 3 different monsters that show up and create trouble for a young sailor. My main character (Sammy) will be setting sail in hopes of proving that sea monsters exist. Her mother was also a sailor and I plan to use that has her character motivation and backstory.

The stories/episodes that I wrote about last week are still in my plan! I hope it's okay to copy and paste, since I've basically already mapped out in my head what kind of stories that I want to tell. (If not let me know and I'll redo this assignment. I did add in some more ideas to the list though!
My bibliography would mostly be wikipedia articles. They have great information about all the sightings and myths surrounding sea monsters. I also might do a couple of extra reading assignments. I'm not sure where to look for things about sea monsters in the Un-Textbook. I'll be reading the links you sent me which include the Sindbad unit and Gould's mythical monsters.

  #1:
Heroine (Sammy Seafare) sails to the coast of Japan to find evidence of the mythical yokai, Umibozu . The "sea priest" appears to sailers when the sea is calm, but can quickly turn it into chaos. Many sailors have lost their ships after an appearance from Umibozu. When Sammy is alone on the water, Umibozu raises out of the sea! She has to regain control of the ship, and sees a dark creature rise out of the water. The creature quickly slips away before Sammy is able to get her evidence. I think here I could make up and trick or method that Sammy uses to try to find monsters. Maybe she has an ancient sea map or sea monster bait.

#2:
Backstory information. Sammy tells the story of her mother.  Her mother was a great sailor, and told Sammy tales of the creatures she saw on her travels. Sammy remembers listening to her mother tell the story of the Kraken (her favorite). She reflects on the death of her mother, and how no one believed in her stories. This is why she must find evidence of the sea creatures.

#3:
This is a monster that Sammy finds on accident, like kismet.  The Aspidochelone  is a giant turtle or whale that resembles an island. It has features on its skin that look like trees, rocks, or a sandy beach. Sammy tries to rest and set up camp on the island. Only to discover that it's a mythical beast! She almost drowns, and maybe here she is able to obtain proof of the creature, proving that her mother was telling the truth!  Now she must decide what to do with this information. Overtime, she's grown to appreciate the sea monsters, and thinks that maybe they should be left as stories.

Story Style:
My first thought is to do a journal or series of letters. That would be the easiest for me. However, I did that last semester, so I want to push myself a little bit and work on storytelling. So I think that I'll end up doing a narrative style story, with writing in the third person.
My only question is about readings. Is there a way to search the Un-Textbook for sea-monster stories or should I look in the fairytale/fable sections of various countries? I just don't really know where to start reading! Thanks in advance!

Introductions Are Hard

Hello! I'm Grayce and this is my second time taking an online class with Laura! All of the information in my original introduction   is still pretty accurate, so feel free to check it out. Honestly, I'm pretty bad at talking about myself and it's just as hard while blogging 😅. This is my senior year at OU (finally!). Since I'm an older college student (25), I'm very excited to graduate. I will soon be able to start my career as an educator which is completely terrifying! Over my quarantine summer, I've been surrounding myself with plants. I have a tendency to kill things, but I've found a few varieties of houseplants (snake plant and marble pothos) that can withstand some abuse lol. If you have any gardening advice, or suggestions for plant names, let me know :)  My plant friends:  This is my Marble Queen Pothos (needs a name!) This is my Snake plant (Sansevieria), which is currently named Georgina (I'm open to renaming)  Image Information:  "Marb

Week 7 Story: Goblin in the Woods

Markus had been wandering through the woods for hours now. It was getting darker, colder, and creepier as the sun started to set. He started to regret his decision to find the famous “goblin of the woods” that supposedly hunted in this forest. Every time someone vanished in the woods, the whole town blamed it on a horrifying, man-eating goblin.  Markus totally didn’t believe in it, not at all.  There are tons of totally normal, realistic reasons for people disappearing in the woods. Like, starvation or just plain ol’ getting lost. Hell, even getting attacked by a bear was more likely than a goblin!  There was no reason to believe that a cannibalistic goblin existed in these woods. Once Markus proved that the goblin didn’t exist, the rumors would be put to rest and his buddies would owe him 200 dollars. It was a win-win for him. It seemed to be around midnight when Markus found a little cabin in the middle of a clearing. Normally, he wouldn’t dare to go in, but it was colder outside t
